Donny Lia and David Starr combined to thrill racing fans at the Ohio 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on Saturday, May 24th, with Lia taking his first career NCTS victory in a narrow last-lap charge.
Lia, driving the #71 NationRides.com/AutismSpeaks.org Chevrolet with a paint scheme designed only days before by Thunderbird Creative Media, made contact with Starr's Red Horse Racing Toyota before barrelling into the final turn three-wide with Todd Bodine on the inside. Lia was able to take the checkers after Starr got loose coming out of turn four.
Lia's truck carried the NationRides.com logo designed by Thunderbird in only its second race on the TRG Motorsports truck. Starr and Red Horse Racing bore the colors of Pit-Now.com, based on a paint scheme developed for Red Horse Racing at the beginning of the 2008 racing season.
It is the first 1-2 finish for Thunderbird Creative Media racing clients in the company's history. "I thought having a Thunderbird-designed paint scheme on the pole for the Indy 500 with Target Chip Ganassi Racing was a huge deal, but this is simply incredible," said Thunderbird CEO Tony Johns. "I didn't know who to cheer for louder."
